About Highlands Open StudiosHighlands Open Studios - HOS - aims to become THE list of discovered and undiscovered artists, makers, artisans and galleries of the Highlands of Scotland. HOS will be the place that the public comes to when anyone is looking for a piece of art to buy ready made or to commission for a specific space. HOS will be able to put artist and client together whether it is for a domestic, commercial, private or public space, a community hall or a business headquarters. We commit ourselves to raising the standards of art within all mediums throughout the Highlands and to make the HOS directory THE place where all artists wish to be listed and THE place where the public come to first to find us. It was decided at the AGM on 6th November 2011 that it is not possible for HOS to continue. We required 60 members to have enough funds to cover the costs of the directory and website. We have had only 29 application forms returned. Therefore the decision was made to end HOS on 31st December. For lots of reasons the 'Open Studios' model just does not work within the Highlands. | ||||

But it is not all doom and gloom; the people who were coming into 2012 with us, and even some of those who had decided not to, don't want to see it all disappear. We have come to the conclusion that not everyone has or wants to have an 'open studio' but they do want to be listed in a directory of Highland artists. So we have plans to go forward into 2012 with a proposal for a directory of Artists in the Highlands with an e-commerce option included. This needs further debate and we would be interested in any constructive ideas about this. It is sad that HOS has come to an end, but we are looking forward to our new format in 2012.
